Amotekun arrests man for using charm to kidnap woman in Osun

A 35-year-old man identified as Babalola Abayomi Timothy has been apprehended for allegedly kidnapping a married woman using supernatural means.

Babalola was detained by the Osun Amotekun Corps operatives on Monday, April 1, 2024, for abducting 35-year-old Sofiyat in Ode-Omu using a magical ring.

Brigadier General Bashir Adewinmbi (rtd), the Commander of Osun Amotekun Corps, addressed journalists in Osogbo on Wednesday, disclosing that the suspect, a Modakeke native, was captured in Sekona town, Osun State.

Adewinmbi detailed how the suspect utilized a mystical ring to manipulate the woman, coercing her from her husband’s residence in Ode-Omu to his dwelling in Modakeke, where he held her captive for three weeks and subjected her to sporadic sexual assaults.

He stated, “The suspect, on March 29, 2024, transported the woman to Ile-Ife and left her by the roadside, prompting the woman to raise an alarm. Amotekun operatives swiftly responded, tracing the suspect to his hideout in Sekona, where he was apprehended.”

“The suspect confessed that in September 2023, the victim, Sofiyat, sought his assistance in selling her palm oil, as he is involved in that business. Subsequently, he made advances towards her, but she declined, citing her marital status. He then sought the help of Alfa Ilorin, an herbalist in Sekona, who provided him with charms. He claims that since then, the woman has been obedient to his commands. He used the charm to lure her away from her husband, even changing her SIM card, and relocated with her from Ode-Omu to Modakeke within a span of three weeks, where he engaged in various forms of abuse,” Adewinmbi added.

After a thorough investigation, the suspect confessed to his actions. Adewinmbi revealed that Babalola has been transferred to the Department of State Services (DSS) for further interrogation and prosecution.

He urged residents of the state to exercise caution and vigilance in their interactions with others.
