13-year-old takes own life after torture in Kaduna

Tragedy struck in the Ungwan Maigero Community in Kaduna State when a 13-year-old boy, Wisdom Hashimu, took his own life by hanging himself in his family’s compound on Lafiya Sarki Street.

The incident occurred on June 7, just six days after Wisdom was allegedly tortured by a soldier and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, Wisdom was falsely accused of stealing N10,000 from his 16-year-old neighbour, Hope, on June 1.

The money went missing during a visit from Hope’s boyfriend, Segun Samson, a serving soldier at Bodi Camp in Port-Harcourt.

Wisdom was taken to the CJTF office, where he was severely beaten by the soldier and members of the CJTF. His father, Mr. Saul, reported that Wisdom was unable to walk after the ordeal and received medical attention before returning home.

Tragedy struck when Wisdom’s lifeless body was found hanging on a noose at the back of their compound. His father accused the CJTF of taking the law into their own hands and torturing Wisdom, despite his innocence.

An investigation has commenced into the matter, with the Commissioner of Police directing the Department of Criminal Investigation to take full charge of the case. The police have vowed to bring justice to those involved in the tragic incident.

The family is demanding justice for their late son, who was simply a 13-year-old boy trying to complete his Junior Secondary School examination.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and has raised questions about the role of the CJTF in law enforcement and their treatment of innocent citizens.
