Police arrest eight for killing six cops in Delta

Police apprehend eight individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of six policemen in the Ughelli area of Delta State. This development follows closely after the arrest of five individuals linked to the same incident.

The tragic event occurred during a rescue operation on February 23, where armed assailants ambushed the officers, including Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT), Inspector Friday Irorere, Sergeant Kuden Elisha, Sergeant Akpan Aniette, Sergeant Ayere Paul, and Sergeant Ejemito Friday, while they were investigating the disappearance of three colleagues in Ohoro Forest.

According to ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, the arrests were made possible through rigorous investigative efforts.

He confirmed that all suspects, totaling 13, are currently in police custody and are assisting with ongoing investigations.

Adejobi assured the public of the police’s commitment to ensuring swift justice for the fallen officers, stating that those responsible for such reprehensible acts would face the full weight of the law.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the officers, Adejobi emphasized the police’s determination to hold all perpetrators accountable for their actions.

He reiterated the resolve to prosecute those involved in the killing, affirming that such acts of violence against law enforcement officials would not go unpunished.

The statement concluded with a heartfelt expression of condolences to the families of the deceased officers, reaffirming the police’s unwavering commitment to upholding peace and justice in the community.
