The burial date for the late Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, has been announced by his family. Despite his battle with an undisclosed illness, which led to the amputation of his leg a few months prior to his passing, the actor’s family has decided to lay him to rest in his hometown, Amuri, in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
In a statement jointly signed by Ibu’s brother, Elder Sunday Okafor, the family expressed their intention to honor the memory of their beloved John Ikechukwu Okafor, who even in death, left behind a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness. The burial is scheduled to take place on the 28th of June 2024.
The statement invited all to join them in celebrating the life of their son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and in-law during the five-day burial ceremony. The events include a high-profile novelty match on June 25th, followed by Mr. Ibu’s Night on June 26th, which will feature a candlelight procession and live entertainment. A Christian Wake will be held at his compound in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West, on June 27th, leading up to the funeral service on June 28th.
The burial ceremony will conclude on June 30th with a Church Thanksgiving service, welcoming family members, friends, and well-wishers to share in the final moments of their beloved icon.
