Fire guts TASUED students’ apartment, property destroyed

An apartment housing students of Tai Solarin University of Education, located behind Ace Bar in the university community in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, was gutted by fire on Wednesday, following a suspected electrical fault.

The Students’ Union Public Relations Officer, Oluwashinayomi Ogunfowora, disclosed this in a statement after visiting the affected building, identified as Amazing Glory Villa, and sympathising with victims of the incident.

In a video obtained by our correspondent, several rooms were engulfed in flames, with students’ personal belongings visibly destroyed.

“Earlier today, a tragic incident occurred at the back of Ace Bar. A lot of properties were damaged due to the fire outbreak.

“This sucks bad and it is really outbreaking.

“As the students’ representative, the moment the information got to us, we made sure we were present at the venue.

“The fire fighters were contacted so as to stop the spread of the fire outbreak,” the union spokesperson said.

Ogunfowora urged students to prioritise safety by switching off electrical appliances and other devices that could lead to fire accidents when leaving their hostels.

As of the time of filing this report, the actual cause of the fire had yet to be determined, and no casualties were recorded.
