Nigeria Wins 2025 World Summit Information Society (WSIS) Prize

Nigeria has continued to showcase her growing footprint in ICT-driven development in international competition as it clinched the 2025 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prize in Geneva, Switzerland.
The WSIS  prize is in the Access to Information and Knowledge category through the Nigerian Communications Commission’s (NCC) Digital Awareness Programme (DAP) which was the top voted project in its category among hundreds of global entries.

In a statement, the Acting Head Public affairs, NCC, Nnenna Ukoha, notes that the award was presented in Geneva, Switzerland to NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida.
The NCC’s Digital Awareness Programme-DAP which began in 2006, equips secondary schools across Nigeria with ICT tools and internet connectivity to boost teaching, learning and research. Over 300 schools nationwide have benefitted so far.

The EVC, Dr. Maida views the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and WSIS acknowledgment of the digital inclusion efforts as affirmation to Nigeria’s commitment in using ICT as a tool for national development.

In addition to DAP, four other Nigerian digital projects were nominated in various WSIS prize categories. Though they didn’t win, their recognition is said to reflect Nigeria’s growing footprint in ICT-driven development.
