World Bank grants Oyo N3.5bn to renovate 105 schools

The Oyo State Government has received a N3.5 billion grant from the World Bank to renovate 105 public primary schools across the state.

The grant, part of the Better Education Service Delivery for All – Additional Funding project, aims to improve education in the state by increasing equitable access to education and literacy.

Speaking during a ceremony to present cheques to representatives of beneficiary schools, Governor Seyi Makinde emphasized that the grant is targeted at critical public primary schools across the state’s three senatorial districts.

He urged those responsible for the renovation project to ensure that all works are done to a high standard, as he believes that quality is essential to making the projects successful.

The governor also cautioned that a significant amount of money is being invested in the project, and therefore, beneficiaries must ensure that their schools are improved in accordance with prescribed standards.

He urged them to avoid doing shoddy jobs and instead strive for excellence.

According to Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Intervention, Suraj Tiamiyu, the renovation project will include the construction of toilets, boreholes drilling, and other facilities that will enhance the learning environment for pupils.

The project is expected to be completed within six weeks and will be closely monitored to ensure effective delivery within the set timeframe and standards.

The World Bank’s grant is part of a global partnership with Global Partnership for Education aimed at increasing access to education and improving literacy rates in beneficiary states, including Oyo State, Adamawa State, and Katsina State.
