Three Men Arraigned for Assaulting Doctor In Ogun

Three men, James Akode, Lekan Ajeigbe, and Rilwan Roheem, have been arraigned before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrate Court on charges of conspiracy, assault, and unlawful damage. They pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Matthew Famuyiwa, representing the prosecution, informed the court that the defendants committed the offenses on May 17 at the Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Aro in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Famuyiwa explained that the defendants, who are relatives of patients at the hospital, conspired to assault Dr. Alexander Onochie. The incident began when Akode entered Dr. Onochie’s office, urgently requesting attention for a sick sibling. Dr. Onochie, attending to another emergency, asked for patience. After finishing with the initial patient, Dr. Onochie found the waiting room empty and stepped outside, where he was assaulted by the three defendants and others.

Additionally, the defendants were accused of damaging the side mirror, valued at N20,000, and the bumper of Dr. Onochie’s Toyota Camry. Their actions caused a disturbance within the hospital.

The charges against them include violations of Sections 516, 351, 451, and 249 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Magistrate D.O. Kolawole Ogunbowale granted bail to the defendants at N200,000 each, with two sureties in the same amount, who must be registered bondsmen with the Ogun State Judiciary. The case has been adjourned until June 4 for further hearing.
