On Thursday, the Rivers State Police Command reported that unidentified gunmen had fatally shot one of its officers, Sunday Baba. The Command issued a concise statement via its official handle, disclosing that Mr. Baba, a police inspector stationed at Rumuolumeni area, tragically lost his life while on duty on Wednesday.
Expressing the sober reality faced by law enforcement officers, the Command stated, “It’s sad that being a police officer means leaving home in good health, never certain of your return,” yet refrained from providing specifics regarding the circumstances of the officer’s demise.
This incident occurred merely two months after another officer fell victim to gunmen during a stop and search operation in Port Harcourt, the capital city of Rivers State. It is one among several attacks targeting police personnel by armed assailants within the state.
