Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has announced a call for entries for a new logo of Osun State, with the submission period running from today until Friday, April 26. This decision comes in response to public outcry and opposition criticism over the design initially released on the state government’s social media handle on Wednesday.
The Osun State House of Assembly had repealed the state Anthem, Crest, and Flag Law 2012 in July 2023, replacing it with a new law empowering the executive arm to devise a new logo for the state. However, Governor Adeleke signed a bill adopting the new logo on Wednesday, which was met with widespread criticism.
Opposition parties like the Allied Peoples Movement and the Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party voiced their discontent, labeling the new logo a waste of taxpayers’ money and falling short of the standard. The NNPP expressed concern over the governor’s approval of the design, describing it as an embarrassment to the state.
In response, Governor Adeleke announced a logo crafting competition open to the public from April 19 to April 26, allowing for more entries to compete for the design. The governor emphasized the importance of public input, stating that the best design would be unveiled on April 30 during the new edition of Ipade Imole.
