The Imo State Police Command has apprehended Ibe Obasi, the 38-year-old owner of Our Guest Hotel in Obowo Local Government Area, for his alleged involvement in the torture and subsequent death of a youth, Ebuka Udemba. According to a statement released by Henry Okoye, the command’s spokesperson, the incident occurred on Saturday and the suspect has since been taken into custody and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.

Okoye revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that Udemba was tortured and confined inside the generator room of the guest house by Obasi and two others, who are currently at large. The victim allegedly suffocated to death after being accused of stealing a customer’s phone.

The statement further mentioned that Obasi has provided valuable information to aid ongoing investigations, and efforts are underway to apprehend all suspects involved in the case. Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID to conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding Udemba’s death and ensure that all perpetrators face justice.

While expressing condolences to the victim’s family and condemning the heinous act, the Commissioner of Police urged residents of Obowo LGA, especially those in Umulogho, to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He assured the public that the command is actively investigating the matter and is committed to bringing all suspects connected to the murder to justice.
