UNILORIN expels five students, rusticates 14

The University of Ilorin, Kwara State, has taken disciplinary action by expelling five students and rusticating 14 others due to various malpractices. Among those affected were six final-year students.

Kunle Akogun, the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the expulsion and rustication stemmed from offenses such as misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, admission racketeering, and beating a fellow student. These decisions were reached during the 220th/221st meeting of the university’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Vice Chancellor Wahab Egbewole (SAN).

The affected students were enrolled in different academic levels, ranging from 100 to 400 levels. Five students faced expulsion for alleged involvement in examination malpractice and theft, while 14 others received rustication for either one semester or an entire academic session.

The sanctioned students represented various departments, including Art Education, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Physiotherapy, Performing Arts, History and International Studies, Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, Chemistry, Engineering & Technology, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, and Anatomy.
