Rivers Police arrest man for allegedly abducting, defiling teenager

The police in Rivers State have arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Prince, for allegedly abducting and defiling a 13-year-old girl in Ogbogoro community, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

The mother of the girl had alleged that the suspect kidnapped her daughter at a lonely spot and repeatedly defiled her for two days before she had the chance to escape.

The distraught mother who demanded justice said the matter was reported to the Ozuoba Police Division where a manhunt was launched for the suspect and detectives attached to the station acting on credible information arrested the suspect in his house on Friday morning.

When contacted on Saturday morning, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, saying an investigation was ongoing.

Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, said, “Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. He will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further and discreet investigation.”

Meanwhile, a rights group, Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, has commended the police over the arrest of the suspect.
