Lagos driver arrested for killing five-year-old girl

A driver named Daniel is currently under police custody for accidentally hitting a five-year-old girl at Adura Field in the Ijaye Ojokoro area of Lagos State with his car.

Reports indicate that the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital where she was rushed to after the incident, which occurred on Thursday around 2 pm.

According to a police source, the victim was struck by a Toyota Camry car with registration number FST-843 GY while it was reversing at Adura Field. The driver, identified as Daniel, was unaware of the presence of the victim behind the vehicle.

“The Toyota Camry car with registration number FST 843 GY was driven by one Daniel. The driver of the Toyota Camry was reversing at Adura Field and unknowingly knocked down the victim,” the police source stated.

The victim was immediately taken to the hospital but was unfortunately declared dead by the attending doctor.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the family had been allowed access to the deceased’s body for burial in line with Islamic customs. He added that the suspect and the vehicle are currently in police custody pending investigation.

“The corpse was released to the family on their demand for burial according to the Islamic injunction, while the suspect and the vehicle are in police custody for investigation,” Hundeyin said.

This incident comes shortly after another tragic incident in the Abule-Egba area of the state, where an unidentified woman was fatally crushed by a truck.
