Farmer arraigned for alleged possession of pistol

Abubakar Muhammadu, a 38-year-old farmer, was brought before the Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan on Wednesday on charges of allegedly possessing a locally made pistol along with a live cartridge.

The police accused Muhammadu of unlawfully possessing the live cartridge. During the proceedings, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Femi Omilana, informed the court that the defendant was alleged to have committed the offence on February 16, around 10:00 a.m., in the Akinyele area of Ibadan.

Omilana stated that the defendant failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the cartridge, which led to the charge against him. The offence, he noted, is in violation of Section 428 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000. Muhammadu pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In response, Magistrate Mrs G. Oladele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned until May 23 for further hearing.
