Oyo: 50 communities cut off as flood washes away bridge in Eruwa

Over fifty communities have been cut off as a result of the collapse of one of the bridges in Ibarapa East Local Government in the Ibarapa geopolitical zone in Oyo State.

DAILY POST gathered on Tuesday that the bridge on the Ipin River collapsed due to the heavy rain that was witnessed in the town recently.

Our correspondent reports that the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, is representing this constituency at the State House of Assembly.

DAILY POST gathered from residents of the local government area that no fewer than fifty communities have been cut off as a result of the collapse of the bridge.

Some of the residents who spoke on the condition of anonymity called on the Oyo State Government under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde to come to their aid.

They also called on the chairman of the local government area, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, to expedite action to reconstruct the collapsed bridge.

They maintained that the collapse of the bridge has caused more hardship for the people of the area. They added that the road led to about 50 villages.

A resident of Eruwa, while speaking, said that the bridge collapsed as a result of the heavy rain that was witnessed in the town recently.

“It is common knowledge that nobody could prevent rain from falling during its season, but the rain which fell on Friday, 11th October 2024, through Saturday morning was unprecedented.”

However, all efforts made by DAILY POST to get a reaction from the chairman of the local government area, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, proved to be abortive.

Several calls put across to him through his mobile phones were not answered, while a WhatsApp message sent to him has not been replied to as of the time of filing this report on Tuesday.
