Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ confirmed dead after 20 years in coma

After 20 long years in a coma, Saudi royal Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, popularly called the Sleeping Prince, is dead.
The 35-year-old prince, eldest son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud and nephew to billionaire Prince Al Waleed bin Talal, died in a specialised medical facility in Saudi Arabia.
His story began in 2005 when, at age 15 and training as a military cadet in London, he was involved in a horrific car crash that left him with severe brain injuries and internal bleeding. Despite top medical care from the U.S. and Spain, he never regained consciousness.
For two decades, his father famously refused to pull the plug, insisting on faith and hope for a miracle. Videos of the prince making slight movements during Quran recitations often went viral, earning him public sympathy and the nickname Sleeping Prince.
News of his death has sparked an outpouring of grief across Saudi Arabia. The hashtag #SleepingPrince is trending as citizens describe him as a symbol of faith, patience, and a father’s unshaken love.
Born in April 1990, the prince spent almost all his life hooked to life support, his hospital room turning into a place of reflection and prayers for millions.
