Senator Ndume Apologises To APC After Criticising Tinubu’s Govt

A former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Ali Ndume has apologised to the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Party (APC) for not consulting the party before publicly accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of maladministration.

Ndume who represents Borno South in the upper chamber of the National Assembly, however, said that he stands by his words, insisting that whatever he said or did was out of patriotism.

“Yesterday I was invited by the party and here I am to discuss family matters with what has happened which you are all aware, actually the national chairman is not just a national chairman to me but a father,” the lawmaker said.

“It is not surprising that I was invited to hear my side and we had family discussions. I accepted the mistake of not talking to the party as a last point and I promised the party that all my observations as a senior member of the family should have terminated or ended with the party.

“But whatever I said or whatever I did was out of patriotism and those issues may be said strong but they are true but then I should have talked to the party as the last bus stop.”

The senator was removed and replaced by Senator Mohammed Monguno following a letter by the ruling party to sanction the lawmaker for his hurtful and unguarded statement against the President.

In the letter jointly signed by the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, the party directed the upper chamber to sanction the lawmaker, being a high-ranking leader of the party for deliberately failing to utilise party machinery to vent his anger before going public.

Ndume had Ndume, in an interview with BBC Hausa Service, alleged that President Bola Tinubu was held captive by forces in the Presidential Villa.

According to the high-ranking senator, the forces have been feeding the President with lies and shielding him from selfless Nigerians who can tell him the truth.

His criticism led to his removal from his position as a principal officer in the National Assembly and a committee chairman.

  • Ndume Rejects New Office At National Assembly

Ndume Rejects New Office At National Assembly

The senator representing Borno South at the National Assembly, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has rejected a new office allocated to him by the Senate Services Committee.

Ndume, in a letter addressed to the Chairman, Senate Services Committee on Tuesday, said the office given him does not reflect his seniority and high ranking posture at the Senate.

The letter, signed by his Chief Confidential Secretary, Yati Shuaibu Gawu, reads: “I am directed to inform you that, Distinguished Senator Mohammed All Ndume, has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the Committee.

“This is because offices are traditionally allocated on seniority basis.

“Sen Ndume is the most Senior Senator after Sen Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”

Recall that Ndume was recently stripped of his position as Chief Whip of the Senate, following his criticisms of the President Bola Tinubu-led government, hence the decision to allocate a new office to him.

    • N70,000 minimum wage can only buy a bag of rice – Ndume

N70,000 minimum wage can only buy a bag of rice – Ndume

A former Chief Whip of the Senate, Ali Ndume, has criticised the N70,000 new minimum wage recently approved by the Federal Government.

Ndume was relieved of his position after his comments believed to be against the government of President Bola Tinubu.

Deriding the new wage, Ndume said it could only buy a 50kg bag of rice which averagely sells above N70,000.

Ndume, hence, asked Tinubu to review the minimum wage upwards.

The senator, though a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, has been critical in his comments about the government of Tinubu.

He was on Wednesday removed as the Senate Chief Whip.

Tinubu and the leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress met on Wednesday at the State House and agreed on the new N70, 000 minimum wage.

In a viral video posted by Channels Television on Friday, Ndume said the approved minimum wage cannot sustain a household because it can only cover a 50kg bag of rice.

“People are suffering, people are angry, people are not happy. I am happy that yesterday, the President agreed with NLC to increase the salary to N70,000, which is a good move, but it takes more than that because, realistically, that is like a bag of rice, money that will buy a bag of rice or cover the cost of a bag of rice.

“So, I call on the president to still open up and listen to the people,” Ndume said.

Ndume was sacked as a Senate principal officer following a letter from Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC national chairman and Basiru Ajibola, the party’s national secretary.

In the letter, the APC leaders referenced an interview Ndume granted where he criticised the Tinubu administration and subsequently recommended that the Senate relieve him of his position.

    • Ndume Rejects Appointment As Senate Tourism Committee Chair, says, ‘I’m Not Interested’

Ndume Rejects Appointment As Senate Tourism Committee Chair, says, ‘I’m Not Interested’

The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume has rejected the chairmanship of the Committee on Tourism in the upper lawmaking body.

Ndume was sacked as the senate chief whip over comments he made criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s running of the country.

He was subsequently picked as the chairman of the Senate Community on Tourism, a move the vocal lawmaker has turned down.

“So, I’m not interested in accepting the committee on tourism for the two reasons I told you,” the Borno South lawmaker said in his Maiduguri hometown, 48 hours after he was sacked as the chief whip.

“I told you I’m inexperienced in that. I don’t know anything, I’m not knowledgeable about tourism. So, I would, if any, prefer to remain as an ordinary member so that I can learn about tourism.”

      ‘Act of God’

He likened his removal to an act of God.

“Secondly, the party that recommended to the Senate that I should be removed from being the chief whip of the Senate, I take that as an act of God because if it is God who gave me that position. It is God that took it through APC. So, I bear no grudges about that,” he said.

“After all, I did not contest to be the chief whip. I did not contest to be the vice chairman of the appropriation committee. I contested to be the se one of the Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and God granted me that victory and I’m happy with God, what God has given to me.”

      ‘I’m Not Wrong’

He also defended his comments, saying there was nothing wrong with them.

“I did not say anything wrong. And therefore I want to state that I stand by all my statements in the interview I granted,” the senator insisted.

“So, I know that I’m not wrong. The people are not wrong by speaking the truth and standing by the truth,” the 64-year-old.

“And I pray that the president who by now, I expect the message should have gotten to him, looks at what I have said and takes appropriate measures to eliminate the suffering of the people.”

Following his sack, there were calls for his resignation as a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

But Ndume said the decision to quit the APC requires consultations.

“So, I’m not a new member. I didn’t join APC just like that. It was in consultation with my people that I joined APC. I take his advice and I will get, I know across to my people,” the lawmaker said.
