NWFL Premiership MD 9 Wrap: Bayelsa Queens, Robo Queens Emerge First-Round Group Winners

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership wrapped up an enthralling first round of the 2025/26 season on Matchday Nine on Wednesday, with decisive outcomes across centres confirming group leaders and sharpening the race for Super Six qualification.

After nine rounds of high-intensity action, Bayelsa Queens finished atop Group A, while Robo Queens secured leadership of Group B to set the pace heading into the mid-season recess.

In Yenagoa, Bayelsa Queens returned to winning ways with a disciplined 2–0 victory over Ekiti Queens. Goals from Sofiat Bankole and Delight Isaac — one in each half — sealed maximum points for the Prosperity Girls and confirmed their position at the summit of Group A at the halfway mark.

The result capped a strong first-round campaign for Bayelsa, underpinned by attacking efficiency and defensive organisation throughout the opening stanza.

Elsewhere in Group A, Rivers Angels edged Edo Queens 2–1 in a fiercely contested South-South derby in Port Harcourt, courtesy of a brace from Abasiofon Uwah. In Makurdi, Adamawa Queens claimed a 2–1 win over Heartland Queens, while Naija Ratels recorded their first victory of the campaign with a 1–0 triumph against Pacesetter Queens in Abuja.

In Group B, Robo Queens retained top position despite a 4–2 defeat away to Nasarawa Amazons in Lafia. Their impressive run across the opening nine fixtures proved sufficient to keep them ahead in a tightly contested group.

Remo Stars Ladies delivered one of the round’s standout performances with a commanding 3–0 away victory over Dannaz Ladies in Lagos, as Aishat Animashaun struck twice before Daniella Fagbenro sealed the result.

The historic first-ever top-flight Abia derby produced seven goals in Aba, where Abia Angels defeated Ahudiyannem Queens 5–2, highlighted by a first-half hat-trick from Winner David.

Osun Babes and Delta Queens shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw in Ile-Ogbo, while Confluence Queens and Sunshine Queens settled for a goalless stalemate in Iyamho.

With the first half of the season concluded, the NWFL Premiership now pauses for its mid-season break. The battle for Super Six qualification remains finely balanced across both groups, while the title race gathers increasing momentum.

As Bayelsa Queens FC and FC Robo Queens lead their respective groups, attention shifts to the decisive second round, where consistency, squad depth, and resilience will determine the ultimate contenders for the 2025/26 crown.
