The National Sports Commission (NSC) has taken a huge step to structure the Sport of Netball in Nigeria by appointing a seasoned Sports administrator, Dr Oluwatoyin Aluko, as the President of the Nigeria Netball Federation (NNF).

This was disclosed in a statement signed by Kehinde Ajayi, Director Information & PR, NSC on Saturday.

Announcing on Wednesday, the Director General of the NSC, Honourable Bukola Olopade, said it’s time Nigeria established a sustainable structure for the growth of Netball in Nigeria.

He said Netball is one of the World’s fastest-growing sports and Nigeria has many top professional athletes in the diaspora who are doing the sport at the highest level.

“As part of Mr President’s mandate to build a sustainable Sports economy, is creating a well-organised system where Nigerians either at home or abroad can be proud to represent the country in their specialised sports”.

” And currently, based on our research, over thirty Nigerians are gainfully playing the Sport of Netball in some of the top Netball leagues in Europe and in South Africa”.

” It means we can have a very formidable Netball team which can add to our podium strength, if we have a well-organised Federation for the Sport. Dr Aluko is a former Netball player who knows everything about the sport. This is a big step that we have taken and in the days ahead we will announce the entire board members”, he added.

The newly appointed President, Dr Oluwatoyin Aluko, is a former Netball player who is currently the President of the Association of Former Female Athletes of Nigeria, AFFAN.
