Group to Tinubu: ‘Zach’s 2031 Agenda’ Is an Attempt to Block Oke-Ogun from Producing Oyo Governor in 2027

The Equity and Justice Group of Oyo (EJG) has raised a strong alarm over what it described as a calculated political scheme allegedly being orchestrated by the Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Dr. Zacheus Adedeji, to frustrate the aspiration of the Oke-Ogun zone to produce the next Governor of Oyo State in 2027.

In a statement issued by its convener, Alhaji Lookman Waheed, EJG said its findings reveal that the alleged “2031 Agenda” being quietly promoted within the political space is designed to manipulate the internal structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State and ultimately deny Oke-Ogun its long-overdue opportunity to produce the governor.

The group alleged that Dr. Adedeji, who is believed to be nursing a future governorship ambition, has begun laying the groundwork by financing political divisions within the Oyo APC and influencing key decisions within the party structure. According to EJG, one of the steps allegedly taken to advance this agenda was the sponsorship of the emergence of former Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Adeyemo Alake, as the State Chairman of the APC, a development the group described as part of a larger strategy to weaken the legitimate governorship aspiration of the Oke-Ogun zone.

EJG further claimed that another layer of the alleged plot involves the promotion of the governorship ambition of Senator Sharafadeen Alli, the Oyo South Senator and Ibadan High Chief (Oba), while allegedly positioning Mr. Soji Adedeji, a younger brother of Dr. Zacheus Adedeji, as the prospective running mate. According to the group, the intention behind this arrangement is to create a political configuration that will ultimately benefit forces outside the APC and undermine the chances of the party reclaiming power in Oyo State.

The group also alleged that in pursuit of this 2031 agenda, Dr. Adedeji has reportedly sought the political backing of several prominent figures in the state, including former Governor and Ibadan monarch, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja; former Senator Ayo Adeseun; and among others. EJG further claimed that there are indications of a secret political understanding between Dr. Adedeji and Governor Seyi Makinde, details of which, the group said, will soon be made public.

The statement emphasized that the people of Oke-Ogun have historically been marginalised in the distribution of top political offices in Oyo State, despite the zone having the largest indigenous population in the state. EJG noted that since 1999, Oke-Ogun has repeatedly produced party chairmen across political parties and has also produced five deputy governors, yet the governorship seat has consistently eluded the zone.

According to the group, the recent emergence of Chief Moses Alake as APC State Chairman marks the eighth time the party chairmanship has gone to Oke-Ogun, which EJG believes is a deliberate attempt to deny the zone the opportunity to legitimately pursue the governorship in 2027.

“We say clearly and unequivocally: No to Deputy Governor. No to Party Chairman. No to tokenism. Yes to Governor for Oke-Ogun in 2027,” the statement declared.

The group warned that the ongoing political manoeuvres, if not urgently addressed, could lead to serious internal crises within the Oyo APC, noting that similar political miscalculations contributed to the party’s loss of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency rerun in 2025.

EJG therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently intervene and call Dr. Zacheus Adedeji to order, stressing that no individual’s personal ambition should be allowed to override the broader interest of justice, fairness and political balance within Oyo State.

“The overbearing influence of Dr. Zacheus Adedeji must be checked. His personal ambition cannot override the collective aspiration of the people of Oke-Ogun who have waited patiently for decades to produce the governor of Oyo State,” the statement said.

The group warned that any attempt to continue manipulating the political structure of the APC in Oyo State could jeopardise the party’s chances of reclaiming the Agodi Government House in 2027 and may also negatively affect the re-election prospects of President Tinubu in the state.

EJG reaffirmed that the people of Oke-Ogun remain committed to supporting President Tinubu’s second-term ambition but insisted that justice, fairness and equity must prevail in the political arrangement of Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group concluded by urging the national leadership of the APC to closely monitor developments in Oyo State, warning that the silence currently observed within the party should not be mistaken for peace.

“From all indications, the silence in Oyo APC today is the silence of the graveyard, and unless urgent steps are taken, the consequences may be politically damaging for the party,” the statement added.
