The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Iwo local government area of Osun state has unanimously adopted Moshood Abdulkabir (Irorun) as the chairmanship candidate of the party in Iwo.
Announcing this development at a general meeting of the party in Iwo on Wednesday, Alhaji Adeoye Halidu, the party chairman in Iwo, told members of the party that AbdulKabir Irorun was a commendably dedicated party loyalist and deservedly merit the endorsement of the party for the position of a council chairman.
As the state prepares to constitute leadership teams for all the local government areas and local council development areas in the state, the party chairman stated that the party had adopted Abdulkabir, popularly known as Irorun, to be the chairman of Iwo local government (central).
Speaking on Wednesday at the party’s weekly general meeting , Alhaji Halidu said, “Moshood Abdulkabir is an uncommon party member, a big believer in party supremacy and respecter of the larger interest of the party above his personal interest. He deserves the party recognition and we are endorsing him today as the party consensus choice for the chairmanship of Iwo local government (central).
“With this development, we are frankly imploring other loyal members of the party who may be interested in the same position from the council area to consider any other available position as they may deem it fit.
“God has sealed this endorsement and made it easy for Irorun. Let’s support him. The only person we know at home and who has always respected, sacrificed and fought every party’s battle genuinely is Irorun and let’s stand by him.”
The message relayed by the chairman was strongly confirmed by the newly elected House of Representatives member, Alhaji Mudasiru Lukman (L&K). He said nobody should think the position of the chairman for Iwo local government council is still open.
“This is a reality that we should all agree with. Irorun is the party choice and we are calling everyone to work together to realise this ambition. His good deeds are noticeable for everyone to acknowledge.”
The news of Irorun’s endorsement was received with loud cheers from members in attendance, attesting to the overwhelming acceptance of the man by the rank and file of the party.
It would be recalled that the delegates of the party had earlier elected Irorun as the house of assembly candidate of the party in Iwo local government before the party urged him to relinquish the ticket for Honourable Atanda Rabiu (ARA), the osun state assembly member-elect.
Submitting to party supremacy, Irorun totally accepted the party’s wishes and substituted his long-time ambition for Honourable Rabiu’s, thus paving the way for the PDP to go into the election abundantly prepared and won comfortably, defeating the anti-people All Progressives Congress in Iwo.
