Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Smart Adeyemi has alleged that the naira swap policy that has imposed hardship on citizens was targeted at the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Speaking with journalists at his Maitama residence in Abuja, the lawmaker claimed that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa were behind the policy.
He reasoned that the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, governor, Godwin Emefiele and Ifeanyi Okowa who are cousin brothers have conspired to ensure that the policy runs against the interest of the citizens so that the APC will be rejected at the polls.
He said, Emefiele has succeeded in unleashing hardship on Nigerians.
While fielding questions from journalists, he said: “Ahead of Presidential and National Assembly elections, Emefiele connived with Atiku in unleashing the hardship on Nigerians for the sole purpose of making Nigerians vote against candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“The Presidential candidate of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was the main target of the crisis to pave the way for the emergence of Atiku and Okowa as President and Vice President of Nigeria but their plan has failed.”
He further claimed that as Emefiele failed to succeed when he wanted to contest the presidential primary, he tried to foist his cousin brother on Nigerians.
“The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is the architect of the crisis facing the country from the Naira redesign policy.
“He came up with the policy after failing to realise his presidential ambition last year. As good as the policy may be, why implement it at election period? He asked.
