UTME 2026: JAMB reveals new plans

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has projected N23.8bn as its internally generated revenue (IGR) for the 2026 fiscal year, representing a N4bn increase from its 2025 estimate.
The disclosure was made on Wednesday during the presentation of the agency’s 2026 budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund.
A director in the office of the Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Dr. Muftau Bello, presented the estimates on behalf of the board.
According to him, N6bn from the projected revenue would be remitted to the Federation Account as operating surplus.
“A total of N30.6bn budget profile is proposed by JAMB in 2026, out of which N23.8bn is to be generated internally and N6bn remitted into the Federation Account as operating surplus for the year,” he said.
The agency also reviewed its 2025 performance, revealing that it generated N18.5bn as IGR and remitted N4bn to the Federation Account.
On preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the board disclosed that it has expanded the number of examination centres nationwide to 1,000, up from fewer than 800 centres used in 2025. The move, it said, is aimed at improving access and easing logistics for candidates across the country.
Members of the Senate committee, chaired by Senator Muntari Dandutse, commended the board’s financial performance and operational expansion.
However, Senator Yohanna Amos urged JAMB to further reduce its examination fee, currently pegged at N3,500.
Responding, the board noted that the fee was previously N5,000 before it was reduced to the current rate under the present administration.
