The Federal Government has earmarked significant funding for road construction and rehabilitation nationwide in the 2026 budget of the Federal Ministry of Works, with allocations spread across all six geopolitical zones.
Key provisions include ₦600 billion for new road projects and and ₦367.9 billion for multilateral and bilateral loans, covering projects such as the Lafia Road and the dualisation of the 9th Mile (Enugu)–Otukpo–Makurdi corridor.
Funding for ongoing projects includes ₦160 billion for the South-West, ₦120 billion each for the South-South and North-West, and ₦100 billion each for the South-East, North-East, and North-Central.
The budget also provides ₦157 billion in counterpart funding for the China Harbour Makurdi–9th Mile Road project, alongside a ₦100 billion contingency fund.
Major highways captured include the Kano–Katsina Road Phase I, sections of the Kano–Maiduguri corridor, and the Dikwa–Marte–Monguno Road in Borno State, alongside multiple regional and urban road interventions across the country.
According to the government, the wide spread of projects underscores its focus on balanced regional development, improved connectivity, and economic integration.
