Gombe governor sacks aides over attack on councillor

Gomber governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has sacked four of his aides over physical assault on Hon. Abdulrahman Abubakar Sheriff, the Councillor representing Shamaki Ward in Gombe Local Government Area of the state.

The attack on Sheriff captured on video had gone viral on the internet some days ago.


Yahaya sacked the aides based on the report of a special committee constituted to probe the incident.

The sack of the aides was announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi.

“The findings of the committee, which were further corroborated by security agencies’ reports, informed the Governor’s action” the Gombe state government said in a statement.

According to the SSG, the affected aides are: Adamu Abdullahi Danko (Senior Special Assistant II, Domestic), Garba Mohammed Mai Rago – Senior Special Assistant II, Political) Rabiu Sulaiman Abubakar – Senior Special Assistant II – Social Media) and Ali Ibrahim Baban Kaya – Senior Special Assistant II, Community Relations).

Governor Inuwa Yahaya directed that the disengagement takes immediate effect.

The state government asked all affected officers to hand over all government property in their possession to the appropriate authorities without delay.

Governor Yahaya also reaffirmed his administration’s zero tolerance for violence, misconduct and abuse of office, stressing that actions capable of threatening public peace or undermining confidence in government will not be condoned.

“He assured the people of Gombe State of his government’s commitment to the rule of law, accountability and peaceful coexistence, adding that decisive measures will always be taken to safeguard public order and sustain the state’s hard-earned stability,” the Gombe state government said in a statement signed by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Director-General, (Press Affairs), Government House.
