NANS Constitutes National Task Force to Tackle Illegal Use of Number Plates
By Adesina Quadri Ademola
In a decisive move to safeguard its integrity, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced the formation of a National Task Force Against Illegal Use of NANS Number Plates. This action follows a recent incident involving the interception of a vehicle bearing a NANS number plate allegedly found in possession of arms and ammunition.
The development was approved by the National Executive Council (NEC) of NANS and is aimed at curbing the fraudulent and unauthorized use of NANS-branded vehicle number plates across the country.
According to a statement issued by the association, the newly formed Task Force will immediately commence operations nationwide, with the core mandate of identifying, retrieving, and impounding vehicles illegally using NANS number plates. Any individuals found culpable will be handed over to the appropriate security agencies for prosecution.
The Task Force will operate in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to ensure the exercise is conducted within the bounds of the law and national security protocols.
“All individuals in possession of NANS number plates—whether acquired legally or otherwise—are hereby advised to remove them with immediate effect,” the statement warned. “Only duly authorized persons with proper documentation and official tags from the National Secretariat will be allowed to use NANS number plates going forward.”
The members of the National Task Force include:
- Comr. Salahudeen A. Lukman – Chairman
- Comr. Alimi Yusuf – Secretary
- Comr. Chide Nzekwe – Member
- Comr. Dominic Philip – Member
- Comr. Shata Maikyau – Member
- Comr. Levi Okuru – Member
- Olugbode Damola Hamed – Member
- Comr. Shedrack Anzaku (National Secretariat Representative) – Public Relations Officer
NANS emphasized that the exercise is a strategic measure to protect the reputation of the association and prevent criminal elements from operating under its banner.
