Four people were killed and several others injured on Tuesday in a road accident along the Sanyo-Soka stretch of the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway.
The crash involved four trailers, four commercial Micra cars, and a Toyota Camry. A video showing the aftermath was shared on the verified Facebook page of Success FM.
An eyewitness said the accident happened when a trailer trying to reverse out of an abandoned filling station near Soka was hit by another trailer coming from behind. This caused a chain reaction, as three more trailers following closely also crashed into the scene, hitting several cars.
One of the Micra taxis was badly crushed, killing the driver and three passengers. A couple who had entered the taxi at Sanyo were among the victims. The wife died on the spot, while the husband, who sat in front, survived with minor injuries.
Officials from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) arrived at the scene to remove the bodies and take the injured to the hospital.
This is the sixth major accident reported on that part of the road this year. Authorities are calling on drivers to be more careful to prevent further tragedies.
