Several Injured as Church Collapses During Service in Taraba
Multiple worshippers sustained injuries on Sunday, June 15, 2025, when a church building collapsed during a service in Jantaro community, Mutum-Biyu, headquarters of Gassol Local Government Area in Taraba State.
The affected structure, identified as the United Methodist Church Nigeria (UMCN), reportedly caved in following a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds.
Although no fatalities were recorded, eyewitnesses confirmed that several congregants suffered varying degrees of injuries. Victims were promptly taken to the Mutumbiyu Referral Hospital for medical attention, while those with bone fractures were referred to a traditional bone setter in the area.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the bone setter, Alhaji Baffa Wanzami, disclosed that he treated three individuals, including a young girl, for fractures in their arms and legs.
“It is very sad that some worshippers sustained injuries and fractures during a church service. A few of them, including a little girl, were brought to me, and I have since set their bones,” he said.
Another resident, Musa Adamu, noted that the windstorm also damaged several residential buildings within the town.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident as of press time.
