Pregnant Woman Found Hanging From Tree In Anambra Community

A pregnant woman, identified as Nwafor Onyinye, has been found dead, hanging from a cashew tree along the Uke/Ideani road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Police in a statement issued on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, described the incident as a suspected case of murder and called on stakeholders and community leaders in the area to assist with information that could help unmask those behind the act.

The police condemned the killing and directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

“The police described the incident as unfortunate and a stark example of ‘man’s inhumanity to man’ and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement read.

“To this end, the Command calls on members of the public to help identify the deceased, as Police Operatives from Ogidi Police Division have recovered the body and deposited it in the mortuary.”

“Further developments would be communicated accordingly,” Ikenga added.
