Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) prevented a potential massacre by foiling an attack on Teegbe village in Bassa Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State on Wednesday.
Major Samson Zhakom, Media Officer of OPSH, said in a statement that the soldiers responded swiftly to a distress call from a resident.
The troops engaged the attackers, who fled towards nearby high ground. During the gun battle, one assailant was neutralised. “Further exploitation led to the arrest of two individuals who are currently undergoing interrogation,” Zhakom said.
On April 22, troops of Sector 2 OPSH conducted a stop-and-search operation along Katnan-Buratali road, Kadarko District, Wase LGA. They arrested three suspected armed robbers in possession of a fabricated pistol.
The suspects, now in custody, confessed to operating with a gang and offered to lead troops to their hideout to recover weapons and apprehend others.
However, while guiding troops to the hideout, the suspects attempted to disarm the soldiers to escape and were immediately neutralised.
“OPSH will continue to deploy every legitimate means to protect law-abiding residents within the Joint Operations Area from criminal attacks and wanton destruction of their property,” Zhakom said.
