Finally, FG begins payment of N77,000 allowance to NYSC members

Members of the National Youth Services Corps (NYSC) on Wednesday, March 26, received the payment of N77,000 as the new minimum wage approved by the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The new allowance (the national minimum wage) for NYSC and civil servants was previously approved by President Bola Tinubu in September 2024.

NYSC members were previously receiving N33,000 and were expecting a payment of the approved wage which was delayed since last year.

Some of the corps members who confirmed the payment of the new allowance said this was long overdue.

“This is something we have been expecting for months. Finally, the government has started paying, though it seems to be in batches. Some corps members have received theirs, while others are still waiting,” the corps member said.

Another NYSC member said while it is heartwarming that the Federal Government has began payment of the new allowance, it is important for the NYSC to disclosed whether the arrears would be paid.

“Now that they have paid the new allowance of N77,000, we are happy but we also want to know when they would offset the backlog of the payment.”
