MEANWHILE, a Yoruba think-tank group, Think Yoruba First (TYF), has stressed the need for Yoruba youths to step up and fill the shoes of their elders and leaders, following the passing of Adebanjo.

The group, in a statement signed by its President, Kurunmi Kakanfo, described Adebanjo’s life as a lesson for young Yoruba.

It noted his tireless efforts in Nigeria’s political history.

“Pa Adebanjo was a renowned journalist, lawyer, and “Awoist” who fought for true federalism, democracy, and justice in Nigeria.

“Throughout his life, Adebanjo engaged tirelessly in Nigeria’s political history, first as an active voice during colonialism as a member of the Action Group and follower of the Great Sage Obafemi Awolowo, then in the struggle for a return to democracy and true federalism, one of the prominent leaders of NADECO.

“He remained vocal against military juntas and later challenged successive civilian governments. His unwavering commitment to restructuring and the teachings of Awolowo even in his later years saw him become the acting leader of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere.

“Pa Adebanjo’s legacy serves as a call to action for young Yoruba to take on leadership roles and continue his fight for a better Nigeria. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement stated.
