…organizes one-day sensitization workshop for girls
The Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to improving the lives of women and children in the state.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Children and Social Welfare, Hon. Chief (Mrs.) Ayobola Fadeyi Awolowo, while delivering a keynote address at a one-day sensitization workshop for girls held at Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo.
Hon Ayo Awolowo emphasized that empowering and educating the girl-child is vital to unlocking their full potential and fostering societal development. She stressed that the initiative is part of Governor Adeleke’s broader vision to enhance the welfare and rights of women and children across Osun State.
“The administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke is deeply committed to improving the lives of women and children by creating opportunities for education and empowerment. It is time for all stakeholders—parents, educators, and community leaders—to work together to protect and promote the rights of girls,” she said.
The Commissioner pointed out some of the major challenges confronting girls, including child labor, trafficking, and exploitation. She called for a united front to change societal perceptions and protect girls from harm, urging parents to remain vigilant in safeguarding their children from predators.
In her lecture, Dr. Margaret Olysila Oluyamo, a Chief Lecturer at Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun, emphasized the importance of equipping girls with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive. She called for the continuous promotion and protection of their rights, including access to education, healthcare, and freedom from violence.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Children Affairs, Hon. Sekinat Temilade Khalid, commended Governor Adeleke for his consistent support and dedication to improving the welfare of women and children. She highlighted the significance of the program in advancing the governor’s agenda on child protection and empowerment.
A notable highlight of the workshop was the distribution of souvenirs, including sanitary pads and shaving sticks, to all the girls present, promoting personal hygiene and well-being.
The event was attended by political appointees and civil servants, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Abimbola Babatunde, directors, deputy directors, ministry staff, and girls from various schools across Osun State.
