Just In: Police arrest Lagos teacher for slapping 3-year-old pupil

Lagos Police Command has arrested a school teacher, Stella Nwadigo, over allegations of physically abusing a three-year-old pupil, Abayomi Michael, at Christ-Mitots School in Ikorodu.

Nwadigo was arrested after a video showing her mistreating the toddler surfaced online, sparking widespread outrage on social media.

The spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed her arrest on Wednesday, Jan 8th.

“The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation” He stated.

“Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served.”

Also, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the teacher’s arrest.

In a statement on its official X account, it said: “We are pleased to inform the public that the teacher in question has been arrested by Owutu FSU, and an investigation has commenced in earnest.

“Indeed, institutions of learning should be safe, warm, and protective environments for all children in their care.”

The DSVA added that the Lagos State Government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of every child by enforcing strict regulations, holding offenders accountable, and working with stakeholders to promote a zero-tolerance policy for abuse in any form.
