Generation Beta: What to know about the new generation of humanity that starts in 2025

Babies born in 2025 and the 14 years that follow will belong to the next generational cohort: Generation Beta.

These individuals will navigate and shape digital landscapes we can scarcely imagine today, and many will live to see the dawn of the 22nd century.

Who Are Generation Beta?

Generation Beta, or Gen Beta for short, represents the children of younger millennials and older Gen Zers.

By 2035, this generation is projected to constitute at least 16% of the global population, according to research by McCrindle, an Australian social analysis organization led by generational expert Mark McCrindle.

A defining trait of Gen Beta will be its longevity. Babies born in 2025, for instance, will be 76 years old when they witness the year 2101.

Birth Years of Generation Beta

Generation Beta will encompass those born between 2025 and 2039, following Generation Alpha, which spans from 2010 to 2024.

Why the Name ‘Beta’?

The name aligns with the Greek alphabet tradition established by Generation Alpha.

The Impact of Technology on Generation Beta

Digital integration will be second nature to Gen Beta. While Generation Alpha has grown up with advanced technology like smart devices and artificial intelligence, members of Gen Beta will encounter AI and automation in nearly every aspect of their lives. From education and healthcare to the workplace and entertainment, technology will seamlessly blend into their daily routines.

Notably, Gen Z parents are likely to be cautious about how their children interact with the digital world. Research by McCrindle reveals that 36% of Gen Z parents, compared to 30% of millennial parents, strongly believe in limiting children’s screen time.

Addressing Climate Change and Environmental Shifts

Beyond technology, Gen Beta will face challenges such as climate change, global population shifts, and urbanisation.

However, they will be guided by eco-conscious parents from the millennial and Gen Z cohorts.

These parents prioritize sustainability and adaptability, with many viewing climate change as a critical issue.

According to the Pew Research Center, 71% of millennials and 67% of Gen Zers agree that addressing climate change should be a top priority for ensuring a sustainable future.
