Some members of the Deeper Life Bible Church, yesterday escaped death by whiskers when their bus returning from Christmas Retreat Camp along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, collided with a truck on the Otedola Bridge, inwards 7up, Ikeja, Lagos.
However, 10 of them, including three male adults and seven female adults sustained injuries, while others escaped unhurt in the accident that occurred in the early hours of yesterday.
Following distress calls, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans (SERP) and its response team from the command and control centre, Alausa, Ikeja.
Upon arrival at about 6:500.a.m, LASEMA’s Tiger Response Team from Alausa, discovered the branded long bus with registration number MUS-176XC, had crashed into a stationary 40ft container truck from behind.
Investigations conducted by the agency’s Tiger Response Team revealed that the driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle in motion and crashed into the stationary truck as a result of brake failure.
Permanent Secretary (PS), LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu said all the victims were promptly attended to by the agency’s Pre-Hospital care team.
“The accident victims were taken to Trauma Centre with aid of the agency’s ambulance and other Ambulances present at the scene.
“The agency’s response team activated necessary safety measures at the incident scene during the recovery operation and the affected bus was recovered from the road to a nearby layby,” he explained.
