Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has been granted bail in the sum of ₦30 million by a Magistrate’s Court in Ekiti State.
Farotimi, who had been in custody at a correctional center in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, arrived at the court premises on Friday morning at approximately 9:45 am. He was transported in a prison van accompanied by a police escort.
Upon arrival, Farotimi stepped out of the van to the cheers of a supportive crowd gathered outside the court. He raised his hands in appreciation, acknowledging their solidarity.
The details of his bail conditions were set during the court session, but no further comments were made by either his legal team or court officials at the time of this report.
His detention and subsequent court appearances have drawn significant public attention, with many human rights groups closely monitoring the proceedings.
Farotimi is facing charges for allegedly defaming legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola, in his book titled ‘Nigeria and its Corrupt Justice System’.
