Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, is set to be honoured as Africa’s Housing Minister of the Year at the prestigious Africa Housing Awards 2024.
The ceremony, which will take place this Saturday, December 14, in Abuja, promises to be a night of glamour and celebration, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and stakeholders from across the continent.
Arc. Dangiwa is being recognised for his transformative leadership in addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges, introducing innovative policies, and driving sustainable urban development.
The coordinator of the Africa Housing Awards, Festus Adebayo, announced the honour during a media briefing in Abuja, praising the minister’s profound impact on Nigeria’s housing landscape.
Since assuming office, Dangiwa has spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives such as the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates Programme, which has 14 active construction sites delivering over 10,000 housing units nationwide. The programme has also created over 250,000 jobs, further underscoring its economic significance.
Notably, the Abuja Renewed Hope City, featuring nearly 1,000 housing units, is set for commissioning this month, highlighting the minister’s commitment to tackling Nigeria’s housing deficit.
Dangiwa has also championed public-private partnerships to deliver affordable housing, introduced innovative financing models, and proposed a ₦500 billion annual housing budget for 2025.
His regulatory reforms, including the review of the Land Use Act of 1978 and the establishment of a National Land Commission, aim to modernise land administration and improve governance.
The minister’s efforts to expand mortgage accessibility have further cemented his reputation as a visionary leader.
By advocating for low-interest loan products and cross-subsidy programs, he has made strides toward affordable homeownership for low- and middle-income Nigerians.
The awards ceremony will also recognise other leaders in the sector, including Governors Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State and Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, for their contributions to urban development.
Organised by Housing TV Africa and the Housing Development Advocacy Network, the Africa Housing Awards 2024 will spotlight categories such as innovative housing solutions, rural housing initiatives, and social housing development.
As the housing sector gathers to celebrate excellence, the spotlight will shine on Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa’s outstanding achievements, setting a benchmark for innovation and leadership across Africa.
