The wife of Zamfara State Governor Huriyya Dauda Lawal, in collaboration with State Zakkat and Endowment Board, launched a debt settlement programme for 1,000 individuals across 19 Emirates Councils in the state.
A statement by the senior special assistant (SSA) to the wife of the Governor on Media and Communications Zara’u Musa, said as part of the initiative, the governor’s wife distributed rice and cash to the less privileged across the 19 emirate councils to reduce the high level of abject poverty in the state.
Inaugurating the programme yesterday, Hajiya Huriyya Lawal stated that the debt settlement aims to reunite families, restore dignity, and empower individuals to become self-reliant.
She announced that approximately 1,000 people will benefit from the programme across the state.
The governor’s wife highlighted that Governor Dauda Lawal, directed the Zakkat and Endowment Board to intervene in settling debts, particularly for those taken to correctional centres due to their inability to settle their debt.
She emphasized that a committee has been formed under the Grand Khadi, alongside the Comptroller of Prisons and Ulamas, tasked with the responsibility of settling debts and helping to mend broken marriages.
Additionally, Huriyya Dauda Lawal provided cash grants and bags of rice to the beneficiaries to promote self-reliance and urged them to avoid taking out loans to maintain their dignity.
“I would like to inform the good citizens of our dear state that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, is making significant efforts to ease the suffering of the privileged and vulnerable across the state,” Huriyya said
