The Olufon of Ifon-Osun, President, Irepodun/Orolu Traditional Council, Oba Peter Oluwole Akinyooye III has expressed sadness over the demise of Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja.
The Monarch in a statement made available to newsmen described the deceased as a guardian, strategist and a true patriot adding that his dedication was unmistakable, courage unmatched and wisdom remarkable.
Olufon who is also the Deputy Chairman, Osun State Council of Obas encouraged friends, family and well wishers to draw strength from his example, find hope in his legacy, and take solace in the fact that heroes like him are never forgotten.
The statement read, “In this sorrowful moment, as the winds of grief sweep across our entire nation, we mourn a great son of Nigeria, General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, who left us with an indelible legacy of bravery and patriotism. To Irepodun/Orolu Traditional Council and Nigeria at large, I, Oba Peter Oluwole Ipadeola Ilufemiloye, Akinyooye III, the Olufon of Ifon-Osun, Deputy Chairman of Osun State Council of Obas extend my heartfelt condolences on behalf of the good people of Orolu Kingdom. Today, we salute a man who dedicated his life to the defense and security of our nation and in doing so, became one of our most beloved heroes.
“In General Lagbaja, Nigeria found not only a soldier but a guardian, a strategist, and a true patriot. His dedication was unmistakable, his courage unmatched, and his wisdom remarkable. When he was needed on the frontlines, he led with valor. When our troops sought guidance, he inspired them with an indomitable spirit. And as our nation struggled with its challenges, he stood as a bulwark against chaos, embodying the resilience that every Nigerian aspires to possess. His life was a testament to loyalty, service, and a deep love for Nigeria.
“For those who knew him, General Lagbaja was not only a man of discipline and duty but one with a heart full of warmth and wit. To have known him is to know that service to one’s country is the highest calling, and he answered that call every day with pride and honour.
“To the people of Irepodun/Orolu Traditional Council, who knew him not only as a leader but as a son, a friend, and a brother, I understand the weight of this loss. The soil of our land has lost a precious gem, and Nigeria has lost a pillar of strength. In honouring him, let us not only grieve but celebrate the life of a man who exemplified courage and commitment, who gave us a legacy that will endure in the annals of Nigerian history.
