Owner Of Collapsed Building Hospitalised, Loses 5 Children

The owner of the building that collapsed in Ibadan, Oyo State, Pa Bibire Lamidi, has been hospitalised following the loss of five of his children and grandchildren in the incident.

One of Pa Lamidi’s wives, Alhaja Yidiatu Lamidi, in an interview with reporters lamented the incident, saying, “I was not there when the incident occurred. My husband told me that he had just finished toileting when he suddenly saw the house collapsing.

“His children and grandchildren were among the victims. My husband treats the mentally ill and other patients. Five of his children and grandchildren died in the incident. Some of his mentally ill patients also lost their lives.”

The one-storey building located at Jegede, Olunloyo, Ona Ara local government area collapsed at about 2am on Thursday.

The incident also left many occupants struggling for survival on hospital beds.

The Oyo Police Command said those rescued suffered varying degrees of life-threatening injuries and were receiving medical attention.

When asked if the building had shown any sign of cracks, she said, “The house showed no sign of weakness.”

Pa Lamidi was still receiving medical treatment as at press time.
