The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a N70,000 minimum wage implementation committee.
Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal, while inaugurating the committee, said the government is aware of the hardship being faced by civil servants in the state.
“You are all aware that His Excellency, the Governor, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, has set up a committee to implement the N70,000 minimum wage consequential adjustment to all categories of workers in the state.
“This includes the state civil servants, the Local Government employees and other categories of workers. The government is aware of the hardship being encountered by the civil servants,” he stated.
Responding, the committee chairman and Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Faskari, promised to swing into action as soon as possible.
The committee has 13 members including labour unions, government officials and Civil Society Organisations in the state.
The state joins others such as Akwa Ibom, Kebbi, Ogun, Lagos, Enugu, and others that have either approved an increased minimum wage or implemented a committee for the minimum wage.
In September 2024, the governor revealed that as part of efforts to reposition the health sector, his administration, between June 2023 to April 2024, spent a total sum of three billion, seven hundred and seventy-seven million naira in the healthcare system.
He disclosed this during the official commissioning of a new sickle cell centre and the distribution of free sickle cell and malaria drugs at the Katsina General Hospital.
