Protester alleges police violence, arrest during #EndSARS anniversary in Lagos

Several protesters marking the fourth anniversary of the #EndSARS protests in Lagos State on Sunday have reportedly been detained, including Hassan Soweto, the National Coordinator of the Education Rights Campaign, who was taken into custody alongside others.

Soweto disclosed this in a statement and video shared on X.com on Sunday.

In his post, Soweto claimed he was beaten, arrested, and thrown into a police van in Lagos for holding a banner and wreath to lay at the Lekki toll gate to commemorate the #EndSARS protest.

He wrote, “Beaten, arrested, and thrown inside a Black Maria for holding a banner and wreath to lay at the Lekki toll gate to commemorate the #EndSARS Lekki tollgate massacre.”

He added that the video accompanying the post was recorded in a police Black Maria while he was being taken into custody.

“This video was made inside a Black Maria. This injustice will not be tolerated, nor will we be cowed. #EndBadGovernance,” he added.
