Zamfara gov promises to support slain guards’ families

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has pledged to support the families of the nine Community Protection Guards members who were killed in an ambush by bandits last week.

The governor made the pledge during a condolence visit to the Tsafe Emir’s palace, where he met with the bereaved families.

A statement made available to PUNCH Online on Sunday noted that during the visit, Lawal expressed his deep sympathy and assured all that the state government would take full responsibility for the well-being of the fallen guards’ families.

“I am here today to express my condolences to the emirate, people, and families of our brave guards who were killed in an ambush last week.

“It was a tragic incident that deeply moved us. We witnessed the courageous actions of these guards who risked their lives to protect their people,” he stated.

Lawal emphasised that the sacrifices made by the guards would not be forgotten, adding that the state remains committed to eradicating banditry.

He said, “Immediately after I received the report, I sent a high-level government delegation, led by the deputy governor, to offer condolences to the emirate and the affected families.

“I assure you that incidents like these will not stop the ongoing onslaught against bandits. We are committed to doing everything possible to end banditry in Zamfara State.”

In addition to his assurances, the governor announced donations of money and foodstuffs to assist the families of the victims.

“The Zamfara State Government will take full care of the families of the slain guards. I am making this promise here, and we will ensure we keep to it,” Lawal added.

The Emir of Tsafe, Alhaji Muhammadu Bawa, expressed his gratitude for the governor’s support and timely intervention.
