Bako Bala, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State, has been shot dead by gunmen during a suspected kidnapping attempt at his residence.
According to Zaidu Bala, the special adviser on television and radio to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, Bala was abducted along with his family, but tragically succumbed to gunshot wounds after being rushed to the Medical Centre Hospital in Birnin Kebbi.
“To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. Alhaji Bako Bala has died — APC chairman of Suru local government,” Zaidu Bala announced in a Facebook post.
The police spokesperson in Kebbi State, Nafiu Abubakar, has stated that he is in the process of confirming details about the incident.
This tragic killing is the latest in a series of violent incidents amid ongoing banditry in Nigeria’s north-west region, where security forces continue their efforts to combat insurgency and insecurity.
