Ruling House hails Makinde for suspending Oniware

Members of Oyerinade Ruling House at Iware in AFIJIO Local Government of Oyo State have hailed Governor Seyi Makinde for ordering Alhaji Abdulrasheed Adetunji to stop parading himself as the Oniware of Iware.

They cited disputes and legal challenges surrounding his appointment as reasons.

In a letter written to Adetunji through the Chairman of AFIJIO Local Government, dated May 24, 2024, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters said the process of appointing Adetunji had not been completed, ‘’as it is still a subject of court proceedings.’’

He was, therefore, warned to stop parading himself as the Oniware of Iware pending the determination of the court.

Reacting to the order, Oyerinade Ruling House of Iware in a statement dated October 1, 2024, signed by Prince Moses Ifekunle, Prince Onaolapo Ajibade and Prince Olunide Opafunmulayo expressed their profound gratitude to Governor Makinde for the timely suspension.

The Oniware Chieftaincy Family said: “Since there is no Oniware of Iware on the throne at present, no one is authorised to sell any Iware land.’’

They warned those Adetunji sold Iware ancestral land to, “not to accept any land in Iware from him as replacement because Oyerinade Ruling House of Iware has not authorised sale of its land. Those people should rather demand refund of their money.”
