Kano to build houses for flood victims

As part of efforts to mitigate the effects of flooding in the state, the Kano State government will build free, affordable houses for flood victims across the 44 Local Government Areas of the state.

A statement on Thursday by the Spokesperson to the Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature, said Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed this during the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at the Council Chamber, Government House, on Wednesday.

The governor noted that the provision of the houses would significantly help flood victims to secure suitable shelter for their families.

He added that the government was collaborating with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation to support flood victims with food and other essential supplies.

The governor also announced plans to distribute chairs and desks in the first phase to 220,000 secondary school students and primary school pupils, to enhance the learning and teaching environment.

He expressed his appreciation for the hitch-free resumption of the 2024/2025 academic session in some rehabilitated schools and assured the people that the government would ensure the rehabilitation of all existing schools.

“In line with the components of the declaration of emergency on education, the state government will distribute free uniforms to all primary one pupils,” he said.

He called on all stakeholders to work together to achieve the state’s educational goals.
