Man sued for ‘stealing’ N.8m cocoa in OAU farm

A 41-Year-Old man, Sanni Moses, was arraigned at the Ile-Ife Magistrate Court, Osun State yesterday for allegedly stealing N800,000 cocoa pods from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) farm.

The Police prosecutor, Sunday Osanyintuyi, said Moses faces a two-count charge of stealing and trespassing on the farm of the university.

Osanyintuyi said around 8am on September 5 at OAU Campus Farm, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Moses committed the offences.

He said: “Moses unlawfully and forcibly entered into the Cocoa farm of one Mr Sunday Nwankwo and stole some Cocoa beans valued at N800,000.”

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 81, 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi, granted the defendant bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until October 9 for hearing.
