Tragedy struck in the early hours of Sunday, September 8, on the Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge, where a multi-vehicle collision claimed one life and left 17 others injured.
The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when a loaded Mack truck (registration number KWL 923 XB) carrying diesel lost control due to excessive speed while heading toward Ojota.
The truck, which had faulty brakes, crashed into seven other vehicles, including buses and cars, resulting in a devastating collision.
The emergency services, including the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lagos State Fire Service, and other first responders, quickly arrived to manage the situation.
The injured received first aid on-site before being transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound sadness over the tragic incident, offering heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and extending best wishes for a swift recovery to those injured.
“This tragic event highlights the urgent need for road safety and serves as a reminder for all drivers to remain vigilant and adhere to traffic laws,” Bakare-Oki stated.
